Michael Myers, like many other Jeep 4WD enthusiasts, began as a recreationalist. After years of Jeep exposure, Michael purchased a ’48 Willys CJ-2A Universal. He followed that model with a rarer, early serial number 1945 model. The first ’45 civilian Jeep took Michael in a whole new direction.
The CJ-2A 4×4 depicted here is Michael Myers’ second low serial number CJ-2A. #10163 was the 163rd civilian ‘Universal’ produced, a bona fide 1945, column shift model.
As a budding restorer and early CJ historian, Michael Myers rapidly gained ground. He acquired CJ-2A #10163 with 2,700 original miles on the odometer. A farm vehicle from Alabama, Willys’ 163rd civilian CJ was complete, intact and in need of some very serious attention!
As his photos depict, Michael’s six-year project has included immeasurable hours of detailed sheet metal work. Additionally, he has disassembled and refreshed every mechanical component on the vehicle. Each step involves date-matching components for authenticity.
What motivates such attention? Hear Michael Myers in this live video interview at the 2011 Midwest Willys Reunion. A dedicated full-time fireman and family guy, Michael Myers has become an early Willys CJ historian and restoration specialist as well.
