BendPak® Cool Boss™ Meets Shop Cooling Demands

by Moses Ludel

Cool Boss™ CB-30L Cooler Improves Productivity

Our climate is four seasons, ranging from sub-zero winters to desert summers with temperatures soaring to 106-degrees F. To preserve our camera equipment and work productively during the hot months, we need reliable shop cooling. The optimal, cost-effective cooling solution for high desert is a BendPak® Cool Boss™ CB-30L Evaporative Cooler.

For nearly a decade, we struggled with a 14,000 BTU portable air conditioner to keep the shop cool. Switched on at 5 a.m. and run until early afternoon, the 115V unit raised our monthly electric bill $80 yet failed to keep the shop cool. Each hot day, as the ambient temperature crept up, the cooling area diminished. By noon on a 100-plus degree F day, we shut off the air conditioner and camera equipment. Welding or running the aqueous parts washing cabinet (145 degrees F solution) required working between midnight and 5 a.m.

Filming a project under flood lamps, heating up the parts washing cabinet or using the welding equipment were daunting tasks from early June until mid-October. The BendPak Cool Boss™ evaporative cooler put an end to that issue. With water coursing through the mat pad and 10,595 CFM of air driving from the 30-inch direct drive fan, the Cool Boss™ can quickly cool the shop. Ample water flow and the right fan speed can lower the shop temperature as much as 26-degrees F in our dry, low humidity environment. A 100-plus degrees F ambient day now means high 70s to low 80s in the shop. This has dramatically increased productivity at substantially less cost than the struggling portable air conditioner. Most often, the 3-speed cooler operates at the lowest or medium fan speed.

The Cool Boss™ CB-30L 115V evaporative cooler arrived in a sturdy crate. Installing the wheels took minutes, and the unit went into service within an hour. Immediately, the shop’s hot air exited the shop, driven by the 30-inch fan. At a fraction of the air conditioner’s electricity consumption, the Cool Boss™ does the job. In our hot, dry climate, the air feels refreshing and invigorating.

The Cool Boss™ has made summertime automotive work, welding, metal fabrication and studio projects possible. Working a full day with the temperature soaring outside helps meet our filming schedules and deadlines. Any shop in a relatively dry climate can benefit from evaporative cooling. BendPak’s Cool Boss™ is quality equipment and a cost saving means for making summer just another time of the year.
